On a whim last night I logged on my original World of Warcraft character, a human pally named Alyria.
I haven’t really touched this toon since I started playing my current main. Poor little Aly was horribly geared and badly spec’ed for tanking. A quick trip to Stormwind fixed the spec problem, and got her gear a little straightened out.
The rubber met the road when I got an invite to tank a PUG run through Hellfire Ramparts. Three reasons I was nervous about this. First of all PUGs are where dreams go to die. Second, this is Alyria we’re talking about not Miriel with three times the HP and Tier 4 level raiding gear. Third it was eleven at night and I wanted to go to bed! Sleep is for the weak though and I gave it a shot. The presence of a 69 dps warrior was a comfort too.
The run went pretty well if I do say so. There were a few near wipes and close calls, but we cleared the instance in about an hour and a half. Some of the difficulties were my fault, but all I’m all I did a competent job. Thinking it over this was probably the first time Alyria has successfully main tanked any instance in all the years I’ve played WoW. It’s a nice validation of all the time I’ve spent tanking as Miriel. I don’t know if I’ll ever start playing Alyria on a more regular basis, but this made for a great last hurrah for the toon if nothing else.
