First 12 games: #RedSox starters 2-7, 6.71. Last nine: 7-1, 0.88”
That right there is really all you need to know about how the second half of April has gone for the Red Sox. In fact, the good folks at the Sons of Sam Horn have determined that the past nine starts are the best stretch since the introduction of the DH. Considering how putrid much of the starting rotation looked the first two times through, to have them come and throw darts like this is highly encouraging. Dice-K alone has been unbelievable his past two starts, the best consecutive starts in his career. I can’t help shake the feeling that he will get torched in his next time out; I am more confident that it is because every pitcher gets beaten up and not because he is terrible. However, if he and Beckett can pitch even three quarters as effectively as they have their past few starts, the Sox are going to win a lot of games.
Which isn’t to say that one historically great stretch is going to carry through for the entire season, but as long as they can play on a generally winning path they will be in the hunt towards the end of the season. Which is all I can ask for.

Normally I’m a calm person who doesn’t get overly nervous about slow starts in April. However, the way in which the supposed Rd Sox juggernaut has stumbled out of the gate has managed to disrupt even my calm.

Over the weekend the Red Wings clinched their tenth consecutive 100 point season, ninth Central division title in ten years, and 20th consecutive trip to the playoffs — the active record in North American professional team sports. Despite all those proud achievements I remain profoundly skeptical about the team’s chances in the upcoming playoffs.

I didn’t buy an iPad last year when they were first introduced. I wasn’t sure if I had a use for one, and I do agree with the general rule that you never buy first generation Apple hardware. When the iPad 2 was introduced however, all bets were off. And so now I’m writing this post on my brand new 16gb iPad.
A year of people using the original convinced me that it’s not something I’m going to play with for a little while and then never use again. One of the problems I’ve had with the iPhone is that the three and a half inch display is very fatiguing to look at for long stretches of time. The iPad with it’s nearly ten inch display does not suffer from that problem. Also I’m planning on watching a lot of baseball with the MLB At Bat app. Plus whenever I travel I think I’ll enjoy the iPad’s form factor for reading books and watching video.
Now I’ve only had the iPad for nine hours, but so far it’s behaved exactly like you’d expect an Apple product would. I was up and running within minutes of getting it out of the box. There are a couple of things i still need to do — like pick up one of those fancy magic covers — but all in all I’m highly pleased with the decision to buy the new iPad.

The NFL draft, the last quasi-meaningful football event before the labor war truly takes over, is still over two months away, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start prognosticating what my Lions are going to do!

My affection for Eden of the East is well documented. I was watching the US blu-ray release done by Funimation and it highlighted something that I knew, but never realized. The importance of the opening credit sequence.
