Walking down the hallway at work after lunch I overheard someone talking on her cellphone. All I caught was a bit of a sentence, “So what do you think they’re going to do, send you to Afghanistan for another year.”
I was struck by two things l. The first, not to get all yellow ribbon maudlin, but we still live in some scary times for a lot of families. While the second is the cell phone does have an amazing ability to make your night charged personal conversations something for everyone to hear.
Still, I’m curious, who was she talking to, and under what circumstances. If I was a better writer moments like that are excellent points to spin out a novel, or short story at the very least.
